Pt Dume (Westward Beach)
Directions: Take PCH to Malibu. You can come over the Santa Monica Mountains via Topanga Cyn Rd., Malibu Cyn Rd.(Las Virginese), or Kanan Dune Rd. All 3 have exits from the 101 Fwy. Turn Right on PCH. When you pass Kana Dune Rd you will be on top of the hill side. Once you head down the hill side there will be sign on the right side of the road that will say Pt. Dume State Beach. There will be a left turn lane immediately on your left at the bottom of the hill. Take a left on Westward Beach Rd and follow it along the beach( Some know this as “Free Zuma”). If you are on PCH and there is a long beach stretching out on your left (you went too far-turn around). At the end there will be a parking gate. Go thru the parking gate and follow the road all the way to the end. There will be a restroom building at the end. Just past this building is the meeting spot.
If you are coming from the North on PCH, as soon as you pass Zuma Beach, you will turn right on Westward Rd. just before PCH climbs the hill and follow the Cliffside on Westward Rd. and keep going straight until you pass the parking gate and go to the end of the lot.
Parking: During the summer the gate will have an attendant and you will need to pay parking( $7 to $10). In the off season the attendant will only be there later in the day or on special events. There are parking machines in the lot to print out parking receipts if there is no attendant on duty. The machine takes coins, crisp paper money ($1, $5), and credit cards(debit cards). If you are there before 9am in the off season the fee is $2, after 9am it is between $4 to $5. It is higher in the season.
There is a pay phone, cell service is spotty. Restrooms and showers are there with some vending machines for water, and drinks. Lifeguards patrol regularly and there is a staffed tower during the season.
This is an Advanced Dive site and it is highly recommended that you get an orientation to learn how to dive this site as there are things to know that keep you safe and make the dive fun.
